The states first free library for litigants was inaugurated in Pune district court Shivajinagar by district judge Madan Joshi on Saturday. A new concept,the library will help litigants gain knowledge about acts and laws of their choice and needs while attending their cases in the court. We conduct various legal aid camps in the rural and urban areas for the common man. However, it is of little use when a person is fighting a case in the court under a particular act, said judge R H Mohammad,member secretary,Pune DLSA who has come up with the novel concept. He said that the library will help litigants understand various acts,its intricacies that might help them in fighting their own case. Judges will get transferred frequently,but the library,lawyers and litigants will continue to be the same. It is necessary to extend to support to this library from all sectors, Joshi said in his inaugural address. Initially,the library will have around books on around 100 acts like Domestic Violence Act,Hindu Succession Act,Negotiable Instruments Act,Hindu Adoption and Maintenance Act,Atrocities Act,Medical Termination of Pregnancy Act,Contempt of Court Act,Human rights,law of willsand so on. Pune Bar Association president Milind Pawar assured of donations for the library from the association. The library will be located in the Pune DLSA office on first floor of the new building in court. It will be open from Monday on all working days from 10.30am to 5.30pm.
