The concept behind MusiQuest which was conceived in 2007 by noted city-based pianist and music pedagogue Roxana Aklesaria was to give each student of hers, irrespective of their grade and ability,an opportunity to play on the national stage. Her conviction was that musical performances are imperative to a students development. Now in its fourth year (the event is held every alternate year),MusiQuest is back in a big way, with a panel of prestigious adjudicators. The festival began on Wednesday at the Academy of Music,Koregaon Park, and is on till November 27.
MusiQuest is my labour of love which I am bestowing upon the city and the country, says Anklesaria, who having come from a background in music understands that music cannot be mastered only through exams and practice, and performing live is equally important if not more.
MusiQuest does not follow the usual play-and-be-judged format. Students shall be mentored over the duration of the festival by the adjudicators, who shall interact with them and illustrate techniques, says Anklesaria, adding,At the end of the festival, the adjudicators shall announce the winners based on their overall performance throughout the festival. The winner of the advanced solo mainstream category will receive an upright piano.
Special attractions of the festival include a concert by the adjudicators on Saturday and performances by prize winners on Sunday at Turf Club. Speaking on the growth and vision of the festival,Anklesaria says,Pune has high standards, and listeners here are musically conscious. The onus is on us to provide them with class acts.
