Dabur India limited has announced the launch of its initiative,Zero Tolerance Against Mosquito. Under this initiative,a team from Odomos and Fortis will be visiting schools across Pune and Mumbai to spread awareness about mosquitoes and educating schoolchildren about prevention methods. The campaign will reach out to over 60,000 children across 120 schools. “We will be educating the children about various methods to prevent mosquito breeding in schools and homes,and thereby preventing themselves from falling prey to mosquito bites,” said Amit Garg,Brand Head – Odomos,Dabur India Ltd. They have approached 60 schools in the city — including Bishop’s School,Agarkar Girls School,Army Public School ,Bhartiya Vidya Bhavan,Don Bosco High School,Loyala High School,St Patrick’s High School,St Felix High School,Symbiosis School,Kendriya Vidyalay and Sardar Dastur School. Dr S V Devasthale,Head,R&D (Home Care),Dabur Research & Development Centre,said,“Latest health data shows that there has been an 80 per cent rise in dengue cases this year. Maharashtra has reported the fourth highest cases of dengue so far. The need of the hour is to spread awareness about preventive measures so that people may safeguard themselves from vector-borne diseases.” Schools would also be invited to participate in a competition on the various measures taken to prevent mosquito breeding in their premises. The shortlisted schools will then be judged by an independent jury and the top five schools from across India will be felicitated.

Earlier this month,Cipla initiated Breathefree: A Clinic on Wheels,an initiative that seeks to create awareness about and educate people on asthma,and on the available treatment options. It also seeks to raise awareness on the relationship between air pollution and asthma,and its bearing on one’s health. The “Breathe Free Yatra” travelled across various districts in Pune. The mobile clinic offered free respiratory check-ups and consultation to people in those districts.

Dr Ali Irani,sports medicine specialist and former physiotherapist of the Indian Cricket Team,was in the city to announce the launch of sports medicine and physiotherapy department at Ruby Hall Clinic. The developments in the field of rehabilitation were explained by Dr Smita Ingle. International special Olympic & Paraolympics badminton player Rohan Sonawane was also felicitated for regularly undergoing fitness programme. Chandu Borde,former cricketer,narrated his experiences on how physiotherapists play an important role in shaping the career of a sportsperson.

Managing Stress

Dr K K Aggarwal,President,Heart Care Foundation of India,spoke on stress management at a function held in Mumbai recently. He said that it involves either changing the situation,or changing one’s interpretation or preparing the body and the mind with a yogic lifestyle in such a way that stress does not bother one. Dr Aggarwal shared his Assi Ka Funda,which entails: “Walk 80 minutes a day with a speed of 80 steps per minute; keep your lower blood pressure,bad cholesterol and waist line — all under 80; do not drink alcohol but if you drink,do not drink more than 80ml a day or 80gm a week; do not smoke because if you smoke you will end up in paying a hospital bill of Rs 80,000.”
