Earlier this month,Cipla initiated Breathefree: A Clinic on Wheels,an initiative that seeks to create awareness about and educate people on asthma,and on the available treatment options. It also seeks to raise awareness on the relationship between air pollution and asthma,and its bearing on one’s health. The “Breathe Free Yatra” travelled across various districts in Pune. The mobile clinic offered free respiratory check-ups and consultation to people in those districts.

Sporty Ways

Dr Ali Irani,sports medicine specialist and former physiotherapist of the Indian Cricket Team,was in the city to announce the launch of sports medicine and physiotherapy department at Ruby Hall Clinic. The developments in the field of rehabilitation were explained by Dr Smita Ingle. International special Olympic & Paraolympics badminton player Rohan Sonawane was also felicitated for regularly undergoing fitness programme. Chandu Borde,former cricketer,narrated his experiences on how physiotherapists play an important role in shaping the career of a sportsperson.

Managing Stress

Dr K K Aggarwal,President,Heart Care Foundation of India,spoke on stress management at a function held in Mumbai recently. He said that it involves either changing the situation,or changing one’s interpretation or preparing the body and the mind with a yogic lifestyle in such a way that stress does not bother one. Dr Aggarwal shared his Assi Ka Funda,which entails: “Walk 80 minutes a day with a speed of 80 steps per minute; keep your lower blood pressure,bad cholesterol and waist line — all under 80; do not drink alcohol but if you drink,do not drink more than 80ml a day or 80gm a week; do not smoke because if you smoke you will end up in paying a hospital bill of Rs 80,000.”

Dr Batra’s Positive Health Clinic recently introduced a 3D skin assessment at its centres for analysis and evaluation of skin disorders. The powerful machine,based on advanced optical technology,developed at Dublin’s Trinity College,allows the skin to be viewed in two and three dimensions and enables multi-spectral analysis of epidermis and dermis. The 3D assessment allows analysis of the skin’s texture or signs of sun damage from three layers deeper. This feature gives the doctors and patient the advantage of precisely tracking the progress of medication. Dr Akshay Batra,MD,Dr Batra’s Positive Health Clinic,said,“This new technology is the first of its kind in the country for 3D imaging of skin.”
