In a bid to save the girl child,Ahmednagar-based Dr Sudha Kankariya has been motivating people in the rural areas about the importance of the Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Determination Techniques Act. She has come up with an innovative idea to create awareness about the need to save the girl child. Pregnant women are felicitated in accordance to the Maharashtrian culture in their seventh month by conducting a dohal jevan . Dr Kankariya gathered pregnant women who,along with their mothers-in-law,were present at a unique function and took a vow not to discriminate against the girl child. We all want girls, chorused the pregnant women at the function held recently.
Blood donation
On the occasion of June being the National Blood Donor Month and June 14 being International Blood Donors Day,Arogyamitra.com and the Pune Chapter of the Indian Society of Blood Transfusion and Imuno-haematology,are coming up with on a special initiative. They are jointly preparing a list of blood donors that will not need to go online. Hi Tech Medical Information Services is executing this project that will work using SMS services. Upon receiving the required messages for registration,Arogyamitra will send an SMS that will detail the address,blood group and other specifics. When a person is in need of blood,the computer will send SMSs to five blood donors and would ask for their availability. The computer will send SMSs to five more blood donors every five minutes,till the blood requirement is fulfilled. The registration has been on for donors in Pune from June 1. The service is expected to start from June 14.
