Rare achievement
In an interesting and rare case,an unmarried woman with a huge uterine fibroid covering the whole of abdomen was operated successfully by Dr Ashwin Porwal, consultant general,Poona Hospital and research centre. The patient noticed a lump in her abdomen since three months and a constant increase in it. The lump increased in size so much that it was compressing the lungs leading to breathlessness. The challenge for Dr Porwal and Dr Shailesh Mehta was to remove the tumor without damaging the uterus as the patient was unmarried and might need to conceive later. Another problem was that Dr Porwal also had to remove the latge fibroid through a small cut on the abdomen so as to provide better cosmetic results considering her age. The surgery lasted for two hours.
