Engg student kidnapping: Cops look for missing links

Senior inspector Manohar Joshi of Deccan Gymkhana police station said,“He told us that he was rescued from the Vashi creek by two fishermen on Saturday night. He was robbed of his cell phone,watch and Rs 60,000 that he was carrying with him.”

Gatagat was allegedly taken to Vashi police station where his first information report was registered and was later transferred to Deccan Gymkhana police station.

“We had taken Gatagat to the spot from where he was rescued. The bridge from where he was thrown is old and hardly has any traffic. We could not find any eyewitness in the case,” Joshi added.

A police officer with Deccan police said,“Our teams have visited the spot on FC Road where Gatagat was allegedly drugged. We could not find any witnesses from the spot. We are are on the lookout for witnesses. He also doesn’t remember numbers of the rickshaw and the car in which he was taken to Vashi. There are too many missing links.”

A senior officer with the crime branch said,“What is very confusing is why would the suspects take him all the way to Vashi after robbing him here. He does not remember a lot of things.”

A M Sapkal,head of the Department of Electronics and Telecommunication at CoEP said,“He is a third year student. The admissions for final year are yet to commence. We do not accept fees by cash.”
