Indus International School Pune’s initiative aims to aid the development of students at two Zilla Parishad schools at Angrewadi and Bhukum villages
Besides learning various subjects in their classrooms, the students of Indus International School Pune (IISP) are also involved in sharing their knowledge with the children studying at two schools in the villages of Angrewadi and Bhukum. This initiative, under the community service project of IISP which begins in the classroom and extends beyond it,is aimed at encouraging responsible, caring participation of its students in the local environment so that they can contribute to society.
The Angrewadi Zila Parishad Primary school was renovated and inaugurated in the year 2009. IISP provided the school with all infrastructural facilities. The entire building was transformed and the school has been commended for being one of the best Zilla Parishad schools in the vicinity. The students have been provided with computers,projectors,white-boards,desks,chairs and uniforms. The basic health and hygiene requirements have been met by building separate toilets for boys and girls and installing a water purifier to provide clean drinking water. A maid has also been hired by IISP to maintain cleanliness on a daily basis at the school premises.
“All the IISP students from Grades 1 to 11 as well as the teachers are actively involved in various community service initiatives at the two schools in Angrewadi and Bhukum. Sessions in English and computers are conducted for the primary school students every day,” says principal Shouquot Hussain. The diploma students of IISP are involved in planning and implementing the sessions and are facilitated by the teachers. The Angrewadi pre-primary school children visit IISP from Tuesday to Friday and each grade conducts sessions in English,Math,Art and Science through a theme which is common to all the grades.
The Angrewadi primary school children are also provided with an opportunity to use the IISP facilities regularly, ranging from sports, music (Indian and western),library, science lab and art activities which are conducted by the subject experts at the IISP campus once a week. These initiatives will not only help the community around the school, but will also provide an opportunity for our own school students and teachers to be sensitive about the environment and the people around us, adds Hussain.
In an effort to further strengthen ties with the local community and ensure their well-being by bringing about a positive change,IISP has also proposed to launch a private-public partnership with two Zilla Parishad schools in the vicinity. “Students of Grade 11 are involved in raising funds to support this project and get actively involved in it,” Hussain reveals.
