The Chocolate Room on FC road is a new entrant in the business of serving chocoholics in the city with a dallop of panache
Chocolates, delectably wrapped and enticingly colour coded, welcome all star-struck visitors to this confectionery heaven. Wooden floors and milky-white cushions hint teasingly at what’s in store. The menu here has the power to kill one with sweet dreams pancakes, waffles, the sinful sounding chocizza, fondues, salads and pastas. We assess the gradation of chocolate in the numerous drinks and desserts on offer, get overwhelmed by the offerings and happily succumb to recommendations.
First arrives the chaste looking Salsa Wrap. Famed easy food that roll in good stuff into their embrace, wraps are only as good as their underbelly. This one is low on substance, with the tomatoes, capsicum and tiny chunks of cottage cheese just about making their presence felt above the sauce. Which would have been passable if the sauce was the worth its tangy quotient, but this one is ketchupy sweet. Won’t make the vegetarians flutter in happiness. Next comes the Mexican Crepe, with the usual wrap fillings coupled with chicken pieces. The meat tapers off after the first two bites, and the mouth still feels full of sweetish condiments. The purported spicy chilli sauce and cheese were clearly amiss.
Now how could we have forgotten chocolates in the Chocolate Room? To make up for the initial food,we order two variants of hot chocolate. Sitting pretty in shell-shaped,adorable ‘cuddle cups’,the drinks come in lukewarm but wafting of tantalising cocoa. The Hazelnut Hot Chocolate is low on sugar and has only a very subtle hint of the nut. But the drink quite grows on you, helped amply by the cherubic cups. The Classic Hot Chocolate with Magic Balls is true brew chocolate, from the first sip to the last. The thick drink is suffused with impish chocolate lumps that melt in the mouth. Two thumbs up!
As we soaked in the experience,a smug looking concoction lands at the table. This tall, messy monster was the Death By Chocolate Pancake. Its appearance quite reinforced its extra-ordinary name. Sample the calorie attack here – a double pancake bathed in generous doses of chocolate sauce, topped with a scoop of chocolate ice cream, cornered off by strawberry slices, cream dollops and cherries, and the whole thing then sprinkled with chocolate chips. Phew! As we gingerly cut through the pancake and savoured the first morsel,we attained chocolate nirvana right there. The pancake is like a rudder in the scheme, evening out the burst of chocolate but never over-powering it. We had come face to face with the hero of this saccharine flick.
Chocolate Room boasts of many food items beside just chocolate, and they are all worth a try. Dishes like the Kumbhi Crepe will quite take you by surprise. The drinks mostly pass muster, but a suggestion would be to stick to the basic,well-tested drinks instead of experimenting. The biggest party pooper is the service. Just over half a month into business,it can understandably be a teething problem. The music is happily pop and sure to be a hit amongst the college crowd.
