Hinting at a post-poll alliance with NCP,Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan said the Congress will take along with them the like-minded parties if they fail to get a complete majority in Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) elections.
If we dont get absolute majority in PMC,then we will ally with like-minded parties to gain power. The Congress with majority will lead the alliance, he said. The remarks of the chief minister gain importance as the NCP,that has been leading the existing alliance in PMC,is seeking absolute majority for the party in PMC.
Chavan said the Congress has allied with NCP in six of the 10 municipal corporations that are going to polls. We have allied to throw the saffron combine out of power from the state, he said, adding, they have been contesting civic elections independently since the formation of NCP,but this time there have been efforts to come together and keep the communal parties away from power.
When asked about involving Kalmadi in the development work of the city, the chief minister said it was up to the leader to decide on what role he wants to play on the development issues having the constitutional status of elected representative of the city in the Parliament.
Earlier this week,NCP chief Sharad Pawar and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar had urged citizens to give full majority to their party to carry out mega development project for the fast growing city.
The NCP was single largest party but initially had to enter into an alliance with the saffron combine as the like-minded party (Congress) decided not to ally with us.
Later, the Congress joined us but all the development proposals could not be implemented owing to difference of opinion with the alliance partner, Pawar had said, adding, the NCP has proved its efficiency by carrying out development projects in the neighbouring Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) only because the party was in complete majority.
