For finger-lickin’ food in a striking ambience, this eatery is a good choice
It is like a white zone in the middle of the busy Fergusson College Road. There is no big board announcing the presence of By The Way. Instead the white canopy and the cosy interiors that you can see through the glass beckon you in. Once you are lucky enough to find a parking spot close to the eatery, which is located opposite the third gate of Fergusson College, you can rest assured of an easy dining experience that leaves its flavour long after you’ve finished the meal.
To start our meal,we called for the Vegetables in Plum Sauce (Rs 250) and Thaison Vietnamese Chicken (Rs 200). The veg dish had a sweet and sour sauce made with plums cooked in vinegar, garlic and other seasonings. The stir fried veggies included zucchini, broccoli and cottage cheese, which though tossed in the sauce, retained their own distinct flavours. The Vietnamese chicken was marked as the Chef’s Special and it indeed was! It had shredded chicken pieces in a thick sauce of butter, red wine, parsley and chillies. A must try as the dish has not been Indianised (thankfully) and has retained its authentic taste.
On the manager’s recommendation,we also tried the Chicken Callaloo (Rs 280). Served with warm bread, this Caribbean dish had shredded chicken breast cooked with mushroom, water spinach and other seasonings. It was creamy and deliciously soft. Don’t expect anything spicy when you order this, but it’s a guarantee that the conti food lovers will enjoy it. We were also served the Veg Alfredo Pasta (Rs 170). The creamy white sauce enveloped the crunchy vegetables carrots, broccoli, mushroom and so on. Topped with chopped green and black olives, the pasta was simply delicious. The manager Surjit Bagga revealed,We get so many youngsters and college students here. They love the breakfast menu and our roast chicken, pastas and Awadhi biryani. Since we were quite tempted with the Awadhi Biryani (Rs 200),we called for small portions of the veg and non-veg,and it proved to be a wise decision. This Lucknowi biryani was excellent and very rich in flavours.
For dessert,we tried the Ferrero Rocher Cake. The moist slice of cake was almost divine! A perfect end to the meal.
