A large youth population of the city, who are abroad either for higher education or professional needs, do n0t wish to miss the opportunity to cast their votes as the world’s largest democracy goes to elections.
One such is 36-year-old Hirshikesh Pangarkar who came down from London on Saturday to vote, and will return tonight. “I am so happy to cast my vote for which I had exclusively come down from London. I had never missed voting in the past as I was here. This was the first time I was out of the country due to professional needs and I didn’t want to miss casting my vote,” said Pangarkar after voting in Kothrud.
Pangarkar , with a career in the Information Technology sector, moved to London three and half years ago. “My wife Sneha too came down with me from London to cast her vote in Akurdi, which she did at 7.15 am,” Pangarkar said, adding he would return to London Monday night, and his wife would join him after a week.

Another youngster, Suresh Joshi, from Kothrud, currently in New York pursuing his masters degree in Project Management, came down to vote. “This is the first time I am casting a vote. It is my duty to take part in elections in the world’s largest democracy. I want to elect someone who will ensure development of my constituency and country,” said Joshi.
26-year-old Mayuresh Nimbalkar studying in Scotland preponed his visit to India to cast his vote. “I am studying for a Masters in Construction Management in Scotland. I had planned my visit to India on May 21 but came before the scheduled date as I didn’t want to miss casting my vote,” he said. This is the second time I am voting in Lok Sabha elections and wanted to participate, Mayuresh said.
