A Theatrical Reflection

Conditions Apply,an English comic play featuring Mandira Bedi and Darshan Jariwalla,will be staged in the city for the first time at Phoenix Marketcity today. Written and directed by Vikrant Pawar and produced by Leela Theatres,the play is a satire on urban life,representing the stress,isolation and frustrations of daily life in the big city. “The play is not plot-driven. It shows how a person living in the city is often an island in himself,” says Jariwalla. While the female character in the play is vocal,passionate and outgoing,the male character is insecure,pessimistic and withdrawn. “My character is of a neurotic man and it is a fun challenge to be able to convey parts of his personality,” says Jariwalla,adding that certain changes have been made to the original play to keep up with the times. “We like to experiment with the play,which we have been playing for three years now. Mandira,Vikrant and I improvise for our own pleasure and we have an absolute ball. It makes the audience think in different directions. That is the purpose of theatre for us and that is the zone where Conditions Apply comes from,” says the actor. The play will begin at 8 pm at Phoenix Marketcity; entry by invitation only.
