Award ceremonies serve as the perfect background for trend spotting. With a heady mix of elegant Indian and edgy Western wear, Bollywood showed up in all its sartorial glory at this year’s edition of Screen Awards. While the women wore cocktail gowns, the men looked dapper in sharply-tailored suits and tuxedos.

With an electric excitement in the air, the celebrities strutted down the red carpet, pausing to pose for photographs. Priyanka Chopra, who won the Best Actor (Female) award, worked every bit of her pastel pink one-shouldered Gauri and Nainika gown, with a rosette detail lending an interesting visual element.

Lisa Haydon looked statuesque in her grey sequinned Cue by Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna creation. The gown with its plunging neckline and thigh-high slit was accessorised with a black clutch. Giving Haydon company in the thigh-high line was Alia Bhatt, who wore a strapless black Prabal Gurung gown, with strappy stilettos and a gold headband. Standing out from the stream of cocktail attires were Deepika Padulone and Tabu. With minimal accessories, Tabu let her red Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla sari do all the talking, while Padukone looked striking in a black lehenga sari from Jade, with gold jhumkis to boot. Shraddha Kapoor made a splash in a Notte by Marchesa gown.

With elements of quirk in otherwise-staid suits, the men infused an edge into their looks for the night. Best Actor (Male) recipient Shahid Kapoor’s plaid waistcoat played peek-a-boo under his suit. Randeep Hooda made a style statement in his blue bandhgala, jodhpur pants and maroon brogues. Shah Rukh Khan, who hosted a segment at the show, made a fashionable entry clad in a classic black bow-tie tuxedo. Host Sidharth Malhotra looked charming in an ox-blood blazer, paired with a white button down andblack pants.
