Aruna Shanbaug died Monday after having lived in a vegetative state for 42 years. In 1973, she had been raped and a hospital ward boy, Sohanlal Walmiki, who tried to strangulate her with a dog chain.
Fadnavis said, “A life cut short with such tragedy cannot be expressed in words. But we salute the selfless services rendered by the hospital nurses who looked after her for several decades. As a small gesture to keep the spirit of Aruna’s service rendered as a nurse, we have given her name to the nursing training centre.”
