Resolutions they plan not to break

Senior officials and politicians of Maharashtra speak out their New Year resolutions.

Shrihari Aney, Maharashtra Advocate General

1. What I am really trying to do in the new year, perhaps, is not a resolution but an intention. I will try and get the courts to work 365 days of the year. That, in my mind, is the only way to clear the backlog of so many years. At a personal level, I hope to paint more in 2016.

2. With my team, I hope to usher in more transparency and accountability in all our operations, and ensure a smooth interface for Mumbaikars when they approach the BMC. This will help make Mumbai a world-class city.

3. In the year 2015, many path breaking decisions were taken. Our aim in 2016 will be to ensure that these initiatives are systematically implemented. My resolution for the year 2016 would be to promote skill development alongside formal education for holistic growth of students and to empower them for a better professional future. We will also be working towards raising the standard of education in all schools, higher and technical and medical education institutions across the state. It is the enthusiastic students who inspire me to take this new year resolution.

4. I have initiated the Women Empowerment Foundation that will help me reach out to the underprivileged and empower them with health, knowledge and skills to live a life of dignity and self esteem. My resolution is to reach out to at least 500 youngsters from Dharavi and empower them with information on their reproductive and sexual health through a health programme I have designed specially for them. The programme will train them in karate, and vocational skills.

6. We want to ensure that aggrieved people, especially those from the weaker sections, who come to police stations are treated with utmost dignity. Also, we want strict implementation of the rule on bikers wearing helmets. We will ensure that the force itself adheres to the rule. We will also focus on core policing issues to cure street crime.

7. My only resolution is to throw out this intolerant BJP-led government. At a personal level, I resolve to be more disciplined so that I am able to read more and write more.
