Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut. (File photo) Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Wednesday said that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) stands strong and united, and he believes that Sharad Pawar will never join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as speculated by many after a meeting between the NCP president and Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in Pune on Saturday.
Raut’s remarks came after senior Congress leader and former Maharashtra chief minister Prithviraj Chauhan claimed that Ajit had offered his uncle Sharad a cabinet berth at the Centre during their meeting last week.
Taking a dig at Ajit, Raut saud that “he was not that big a leader to make offers to Sharad Pawar”. According to Raut, it was “Sharad Pawar who has made Ajit Pawar and not the vice versa”, and that the NCP chief was the big leader who has been in politics for 60 years and was the state chief minister four times.
“Since when did Ajit Pawar become so much bigger than Sharad Pawar that he has started giving offers of central government posts? Ajit Pawar is not such a big leader that he can make offers to Sharad Pawar. Sharad Pawar ‘created’ Ajit Pawar… Sharad Pawar was not made by Ajit Pawar. Sharad Pawar has spent more than 60 years in parliamentary politics. He was the Maharashtra chief minister; a minister at the Centre. His stature is big. Ajit Pawar and Hasan Mushrif are much junior to make offers to Sharad Pawar. Does this ever happen in politics?” asked Raut.
Despite confusion over the “secret meeting” between the two Pawars in Pune, the Shiv Sena (UBT) MP said, “The MVA is standing strong. The three parties — Congress, Nationalist Congress Party and Shiv Sena (UBT) — will remain together as the MVA and INDIA alliance.”
“What I know of Sharad Pawar, he will never join hands with the BJP… not in this lifetime. I believe he (Sharad Pawar) has stepped out to rebuild his party… With a firm belief, he entered the pitch again. Those left are no longer connected. It is not right to draw such meaning from a meeting or two. I had a telephonic conversation with him (Sharad Pawar) yesterday (Tuesday). We had a discussion on the INDIA alliance,” said Raut.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee president Nana Patole said that “Sharad Pawar has already clarified his stand, that he will remain with the INDIA alliance”.
