In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF), Mohali, arrested four peddlers travelling in a car and recovered half a kilogram of heroin along with Rs 2 lakh in drug money from them. The arrests were made in Phase 7, Industrial Area.
All four accused were produced before a local court, which granted the police a two-day custody.
The arrested accused were identified as Arvinder Kumar, alias Parveen, a resident of Sector 56, Chandigarh; Jashanpreet of Sangram Rangar (Batala); Karandeep of Kot Todar Mal (Gurdaspur); and Sandeep Singh from Jalandhar, currently residing in a village near Mohali.
According to ANTF police station incharge Ram Darshan, the team had received a tip-off that a group of youths had arrived in Phase 7 to supply heroin. Acting on the information, the police set up checkpoints across the area. “When we signalled a gold-coloured car to stop, the driver panicked and attempted to flee. The team immediately cordoned off the spot and apprehended all four suspects,” Ram Darshan said.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 500 grams of heroin and Rs 2 lakh in cash, believed to be drug proceeds. During interrogation, the accused revealed that they sourced heroin from Gurdaspur. Sandeep, who works at a hotel in Mohali, allegedly facilitated the supply by bringing in customers and arranging deals inside hotel premises.
Police officers also confirmed that Arvinder, alias Parveen, has a criminal history, with two previous NDPS cases registered at Phase-1 police station, along with five pending cases of theft.
The ANTF stated that intensive questioning is underway during the remand to uncover their supply network, funding routes, and other associates. The task force added that its drive against drug trafficking will continue with increased intensity in the coming days.
