Ekta Kapoor (Reuters)Mumbai Police are soon likely to issue notices to producer Ekta Kapoor, her mother Shobha Kapoor who were booked under POCSO Act for allegedly showing inappropriate scenes involving minor girls in an episode of the ALT Balaji’s web series Gandi Baat.
Confirming the development, a senior police officer said, “We would soon issue notices to the accused persons asking them to present themselves before the investigators for inquiry.”
“We would first record the detailed statement of the complainant person,” the officer added.
The case is related to season 6 of the web series Gandi Baat on the OTT platform Alt Balaji. According to Mumbai Police, a case has been registered against Balaji Telefilm Limited, Ekta Kapoor and her mother Shobha Kapoor at MHB police station in Mumbai under section 295-A of IPC, IT Act and sections 13 and 15 of the POCSO Act.
As per the FIR, registered on October 18 night on the directives of the court, the alleged offence took place in February-April 2021. The complainant has alleged in the complaint that the minor girl’s obscene scenes were shown in the web series.
Currently, the controversial episode is off the air. The police complaint also alleged that defamatory contents have been shown about great leaders and seers in the web series. Allegations were also raised against policemen from MHB police station for not registering the complaint prompting the complainant to move to court.
The investigation is being carried out as per the court’s directives and the allegations made in the complaint are being verified, another police officer said.
Calls and messages to Ekta Kapoor did not elicit any response.
