Pune cueists Rajwardhan Joshi and Nimish Kulkarni snatched crucial wins in their concluding group ties to fashion dramatic entries into the knock out pre-quarter-finals,in the NSCI-BSAM All India Under-25 Snooker Challenge 1,at the National Sports Club of India,Worli on Wednesday.

A win was mandatory to qualify for the last 16 and it came the hard way for the PYC Hindu Gymkhana lads who lived dangerously en route to nail-biting 3-2 verdicts in best-of-five frames contests.

Joshi of Model Town halted Rahul Kamte of Willingdon Sports Club,Mahalaxmi with a thrilling 33-45,59-25,59-52,39-57,47-30 win in Group B that included a black ball finish in the third frame which gave him a 2-1 lead before Kamte forced the decider with a brilliant comeback in the crucial fourth.

Kulkarni rallied from a 0-2 deficit to win three frames in a row to overcome formidable Samay Wadhwan of P.J. Hindu Gymkhana 23-60,46-55,52-32,58-56,55-12 in Group E that included a pulsating black ball win in the crucial fourth that forced the decider.

Nikhil Saigal of Khar Gymkhana and Dhariya Bhandari of Indian Snooker Academy also won their crucial concluding round robin ties to join the Pune duo in the next round.

Kabil Badami of Bombay Gymkhana and Pranit Ramchandani of Tamil Nadu were the other significant cueists to qualify for the knock out.
