Powai,Bhandup,Kurla to face water cut tomorrow

Mumbai: Major parts of the L and S wards will face a water cut from 4 am on Friday to 4 pm on Saturday owing to urgent repair works on water pipelines at the Powai reservoir. Water supply will have to be completely cut since work on repairing at least five leakages and fitting valves will be undertaken during this period. Parts of Powai,Bhandup,Kurla and Chunabhatti will be most hit.

Shewale elected standing committee chairman

Mumbai: Shiv Sena corporator from Chembur Rahul Shewale was elected as the chairman of BMC’s standing committee for the second year in a row. The 27-member committee is a statutory panel that has the power to sanction monetary transactions over Rs10,000. Shewale got 14 votes from members of the ruling Shiv Sena-BJP combine along with one vote of outside support from independent candidate Adolf D’Souza. NCP’s Niyaz Vanu got 11 votes from the opposition as MNS group leader Mangesh Sandgle did not vote while Samajwadi Party corporator Shazia Azmi was absent. BJP-nominated former deputy mayor Vinod Ghedia was elected chairman of the education committee.
