During the last few fashion weeks in Delhi,as models sashayed down the ramp in creations by various Indian designers, officials from South Korea were watching from the front row. They were keeping a close eye on a number of designers — trying to understand their work and roots, and were on a look out for the label that would represent India at the International Daegu Fashion Fair of Asia Textile Fashion Forum,in Daegu,South Korea. From each Asian country, one designer label has been chosen to represent his/her respective country and from India,it’s Delhi-based designer duo Ashima-Leena.

Elated at being the first Indian designers to be part of the prestigious three-day event,Leena Singh says,“They were looking for someone who would represent Indian art and craft, garments that are India-inspired but have a global appeal too. The officials were accompanied by Korean designer Choi Boko, and they liked some of the garments that we had shown here. We are working around those pieces.” The fair begins on October 10.

The collection is titled “Journey of India” and comprises saris, anarkalis, lehengas, kurtas, skirts and even a traditional Korean dress. Ashima-Leena will be showcasing 40 garments during the ramp show. Besides, they have also been allotted a 9X9-metre booth to display their range for the three days.
