The online registration for constabulary vacancies went live on Friday, with the state police receiving over 53,000 applications in just six hours. The officials are pegging the total applications to touch the seven lakh figure by the end of October, with November 1 set as the deadline.
With 16,600 constabulary positions to be filled, the state police had placed advertisements in September. As the entire procedure went digital from this year, the state police had sought help from experts and also placed a contract with a private agency to provide guides and tutors across Internet cafes to help prospective candidates for filling application forms. A total of 1,200 cyber-cafes have been roped in towards this initiative. The procedure also does away with the one-minute interview at the application stage which was considered discretionary.
The decision to go digital was to make the entire procedure transparent, state officials. While there have been 53,000 applications that have been registered, only 6,000 bank challans of Rs 100 have been made. Usually candidates wait to see the allotment and then make the final decision. So for now they have registered and shown their interest in opting for the position. In the days to come when there is clarity on the number of posts corresponding commissionerates, they make the final payment towards enrollment, said A K Sharma,Additional Director General of Police,Training.
He added that the concept of getting applications registered online has also made the system more efficient and accountable. Till 2010,the physical registration created a good amount of confusion and also was cumbersome and expensive for applicants who travelled from various districts to reach the designated centres. With over 1,200 cyber cafes spread across the state, the applicants now do not have to stand for hours or travel long distances to apply towards the post. Its much easier for the applicants and efficient for the force, added Sharma.
Once the applications are registered, the second step of physical and written test will follow.
