AIR INDIA U-19 combined well as a unit to score an authoritative 6-1 victory against Sea View Sports Club in a Super Division play-off match of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) League at the St Xavier’s ground,Parel,on Monday.

The young Air India team showed good understanding to call the shots from the start and scored at regular intervals to knock the fight out of their opponents. Aniket Dhuri,Siddhart Nayak,Pawan Rawat,Prakash Sonawane,Arun Patil and Atul Darade contributed a goal each for the Air India colts,while Sea View scored the lone consolation goal through Rakesh Dhanu.

In the other match of the day,Central Railway Mumbai Division and Juhu Sparks shared the honours after being engaged in a 1-1 draw. Chirag Shaikh was on target for the railway outfit,while Lester Creado struck for the Juhu side.

Results: First Division: Air India U-19 6 (Aniket Dhuri,Siddhart Nayak,Pawan Rawat,Prakash Sonawane,Arun Patil,Atul Darade) bt Sea View SC 1 (Rakesh Dhanu); Central Railway Mumbai Division 1 (Chirag Shaikh) drew with Juhu Sparks 1 (Lester Creado).

Bengal Club cricket camp for girls

THE Bengal Club LRSN (Lalchand Rajput – Sulakshana Naik) Cricket Academy will be conducting a free summer coaching camp for girls above eight years at the Bengal Club,Shivaji Park,Dadar,from April 2 to May 31. The two-month long camp will be held under the supervision of former Indian Test cricketer Rajput,India’s women cricketer Naik and other renowned ‘B’ level coaches. MCA under-19 camp

The following players are selected for the special camp for U-19 to be conducted at MCA Academy at BKC from April 2 from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm. The players are requested to report to Pradeep Kasliwal.

LIC President’s XI clinch cricket title

LIC President’s XI today beat ONGC West Zone by 49 runs to clinch the LIC Trophy cricket tournament for the physically challenged. The winners qualified directly,but there was a triple tie among the other teams which was resolved on the basis of run rate. ONGC West Zone emerged with the best run rate of 1.84 and qualified for the final by edging out GIC Central Zone and Central Bank of India South Zone,who had run rates of 1.79 and 1.46 respectively,in the All India Cricket Association- organised tournament. In the final match played at the Police Gymkhana,LIC President’s XI scored 117 for 4 in their stipulated 10 overs.

Sarfaraz Khan scored a brisk 44,hitting six sixes,and was ably supported by Swapnil Mungale,who scored a breezy 47 off just 20 deliveries. Chasing a stiff target,ONGC West Zone could manage only 68 runs and they lost seven wickets in the bargain. Sarfaraz was declared the man of the match. The winners took home Rs 50,000 as prize money,while the runners up pocketed Rs 25,000.

Jaffer slams unbeaten 92

Armaan Jaffer slammed a brilliant unbeaten 92 as MCA Colts defeated Islam Gymkhana by five wickets in Talyarkhan One Day Invitation Cricket Tournament at the Islam Gymkhana on Sunday. Jaffer in his 101-ball knock slammed two sixes and 10 boundaries.

Brief Scores: Islam Gymkhana 163 (Kevin Almeda 3/28) lost to MCA Colts 165/5 (Armaan Jaffer 92 not out); Bombay Gymkhana 70 (Ibrahim Kazi 6/32 (including hattrick)) lost to Payyade SC 71/1.
