After a two-year long wait Lower Parels brewpub,The Barking Deer, will finally start serving freshly brewed beer off the tap, starting November 7. Microbrewery,a novel concept in Mumbai, has attracted a lot of attention. Leveraging on this excitement, the pubs brewery launch will also witness an auction of the first brewed beer in the city and the proceeds from the highest bidder will go to Jai Vakeel School, run by an NGO for children in need of special care.
Bidders will be able to get their hands on a keg of freshly brewed beer, which would make them the first patrons of brewed beer in the city, says Greg Kroitzsh, owner of the restaurant. Half of the earnings from the sale of beer on the day of the launch will also be donated to the school.
The Barking Deer, which has now earned the title of Mumbais first microbrewery-cum-restaurant,plans to launch three beers Bombay Blonde Ale,Barking Deer India Pale Ale and Flying Pig Belgian Wit. Resident brewmaster Benjamin Johnson will add more beer recipes that will make their way to the tap soon.
