For the last one month, music lovers have been waiting for NH7 Weekender, news of which was splashed in print,TV and on social media sites. Today,at 2 pm,as the gates for the largest music fest open at Laxmi Lawns,Magarpatta City, the tempo is expected to rise. Music will begin from 5 pm onwards. Fifty artistes will perform on six different stages at this fest which will be thronged by music lovers from all over India. For the next three days, attendees will be soaked in their favourite music genres—from rock to electronic to dubstep and reggae.

There have been some new additions to the fest. The Pepsi Dub Station Stage is one of them. Gumnaam (Netherlands/London),The Ska Vengers (New Delhi),Dakta Dub (Hyderabad),Bay Beat Collective (Mumbai),Taal Inc (Pune),Mo,Humble The Poet and Monica Dogra (Delhi/Canada/Mumbai) — the list is exhaustive. Their dubstep,drum-n-bass and reggae vibes will beat through the day. “We also have new stages like The Other Stage and the Bacardi Together Stage,” says Vijay Nair of organisers OML (Only Much Louder). At The Other Stage, don’t miss Imphal Talkies (Manipur/Delhi),Alisha Pais from Mumbai and Fire Exit from New Delhi. The organisers aren’t revealing too much about the Bacardi Together Stage as they want to keep the suspense alive. “It will have a performance curated by Indian-American producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Karsh Kale,” adds Nair.

Last year, the fest brought mettle to music. This year,it’s treading new ground. “There’s a Weekender Bazaar,a Flea Market, and a Tattoo Convention. The Bazaar is for the foodies. Make your way to The Dewarists Stage. With Imogen Heap,Raghu Dixit Project,Papon and The East India Company taking centrestage here, you can feast on their music as well as burgers,Mexican food,Chinese cuisine and Amritsari parathas and shawarmas at the food stalls lined up nearby. “Arc Asia,Gostana,Prem’s,The Bagel Shop,Oye Punjabi,Marrakesh and Yoghurt Bay are some of the participating eateries,” Nair reveals. If the music gets you into a quirky mood, you can even shop for fun merchandise from Quirk Box,CheapSex,Pop-Att and Bombay Duck Designs. The Flea Market will have organic products displayed on the green lawns. Look out for eco-friendly tees, jholas, cosmetics and recycled products from No Nasties,Samskara,OLB,Sheep Stop and Jhola Co.

On Saturday and Sunday, the tattoo-crazy can browse through 45 booths of Indian and international tattoo artists. Organised by OML and celebrity tattoo artist Sameer Patange of InkMyDink, this tattoo convention — Tattoo Republic — will ink you with black-n-white tattoos,Swarovski tattoos, artist portraits and what not. “The idea is to bridge the gap between the artists and clients,” says Patange.

To make travelling easy to the venue, shuttle services and car pools have been organised from High Spirits,Koregaon Park,Toons,Camp and Venus Traders,Fergusson College Road. Here’s a word of fun from the organisers: “Photographer Prarthna Singh will take photos of people who’ve taken pains to dress up or down,” says Nair. She will compile a Style File. “What’s a festival without the people?” she asks as she readies her camera to capture funky headgear, boots and quirky styles.
