A 27-year-old Panvel resident was arrested on charges of extortion by the Nagpada police on Saturday. According to the police, Parag Mohite was nabbed in Belapur where he was to pick up the money from the complainant.
Police said that Santosh Razak, owner of Good Luck Guest House in Nagpada, had approached the police, Friday, after being repeatedly threatened by three persons to pay Rs 50,000 as protection money. “Razak claimed that the accused had been threatening him since April 3 this year,” said an officer. A trap was laid and Mohite was caught with Rs 35,000 which was the negotiated amount, police said. “Mohite was sent to pick up the money. He had no major role to play. We are on the lookout for the other accused,” said an investigator. The absconders have been identified as Satish Salve, Rupesh Dhone and Nagesh.
