He was addressing a press conference on pending road construction work in Mumbai. (PTI Photo) Sena (UBT) leader and MLA, Aaditya Thackeray, on Saturday said that guidelines issued by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to combat air pollution is identical to the one issued in March this year, but no action was ever taken.
“The guideline is exactly the same as it was in March. What has changed since? The main source of air pollution is dust. Absolutely no effort has been made to control dust from construction sites in the city. Guidelines are on paper only, no action has been taken on ground,” said Thackeray, questioning as to whether any stop-work notice or fines were issued by BMC on contractors as per guidelines.
He was addressing a press conference on pending road construction work in Mumbai where he alleged that not a single kilometre of road has been built despite contractors being awarded tenders in January worth thousands of crores of rupees.
“Projects estimated at Rs 8,500 crore are pending in the city as none of them have even been started. Permissions are purposely being denied to ensure work does not start. This is nothing but a scam and we demand answers from the government,” said Thackeray.
