AITUC members protest in city
The All-India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) members of the power corporation today staged a rally outside the guest house of the corporation at the Ferozepur Road where K D Chaudhary,the chief managing director of the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) was scheduled to come. The union members had a plan to gherao him and they were carrying black flags. However,Chaudhary postponed his meeting. It was stated that he had to attend a meeting chaired by the CM in Chandigarh and hence the meeting with the Ludhiana officers was called off.
Meanwhile,protesting employees stated that the tripartite agreement done between the government and PSPCL has not yet been implemented and hence they had come to show their anger. Chaudhary,while talking to Newsline,said,The agreement will be signed within a week and a meeting has already taken place with the employees in this context. I am surprised as why they are still protesting.
DMCH marks World Diabetes Day
DMCH on Saturday celebrated World Diabetes Day by organising a free diabetes camp in its OPD block. DMCH Professor & Head of Endocrinology Parminder Singh said that people around the world are taking less exercise and eating less healthy food.The result is that the total number of people with diabetes mellitus is spiraling out of control. World Diabetes Day is commemorated to raise global awareness about diabetes,a silent killer disease which affects many vital organs of the body including the kidney,heart,eyes,nerves and brain. With proper treatment and regular medical check-ups,the complications can be reduced to a great extent.
21st century is century of knowledge: Tewari
Local MP and Congress national spokesperson Manish Tewari said on Saturday that the twenty-first century is going to be the century of knowledge. He said,knowledge has always played an important role in the development of civilization and at this stage it has become all the more important. He was addressing the Annual Day function of RS Model School here today. Tewari also inaugurated the computer lab at the school. The lab has been set up with a Rs 2 lakh grant provided by him from his MPs Local Area Development Fund (MPLAD). He also presented awards to the 172 students who had shown outstanding performance in various fields. Those present on the occasion included Punjab School Education Board (PSEB) Chairman Dalbir Singh Dhillon and School Committee President Satyanand Munjal.
