A barn owl got entangled in a kite string on a tree-top in Kashmir Nagar,near Shingar cinema here on Sunday morning. The owl was noticed by Prem Batra and Surinder Advani,residents of the area on an eculyptus tree. Crows had begun attacking the animal after it got entangled. Finally the bird was brought down. A barn owl,also known as golden owl,is around 12-inch golden and white bird.

The rescued bird was identified as Barn Owl or Sunehri Ullu. They tried to contact Divisional Forrest Officer (DFO) to send a forest team to fetch it. But he could not be contacted,said Dr Sandeep Jain,chief coordinator CAPE India. The bird was given first aid and water.

Interestingly,one woman wanted to purchase it for using it for tantrik activity but we refused,said Dr Jain. It was then released in the evening in the same locality where it was first noticed.

Schools closed
Ludhiana deputy commissioner on Sunday ordered closure of all the government and private schools in Ludhiana district till January 8 in view of the severe cold conditions prevailing in the region. The schools will re-open on Saturday,said the order.
