New school opens
Bachpan,a new play school,was inaugrated on Monday at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. It is ISO-2000 certified school having 350 branches all over the nation. The school is already having a branch in Sunder Nagar and today,the second branch was opened in Ludhiana. The authorities have plans to open more such branches in Ludhiana and other cities. Soon,nursery teachers training will also be started on the same campus,said the authorities. The management has planned to keep two teachers for 24 children. Dining arena,doll house,ball room etc are the main attractions in this school.

Students bring laurels
Nandini Voice of the Deprived,a non-government organization based in Chennai had organised an all-India essay contest on the subject “Future of democracy under control of families”. Two students of Government College for Women,namely Gurleen Kaur and Swastika Khosla of BA-II have made in to a top 12 best entries and have received a cash award of Rs 500 each. The college principal,RK Aulakh congratulated them.

Mathematics test held
Guru Nanak Public School,Sarabha Nagar,on Monday conducted the first round of mathematics test for the classes VI to XII to select “Topper of the toppers.” In this,504 students with scores of 80% marks participated. Malinder Singh,head of Mathematics Department of the school,said,“The final round of this test will be conducted on December 6. The top 10 students from each class will be eligible for that.” He thanked the students and RS Gill,the school principal,for cooperation.

MC helpline is getting popular
The helpline number of Municipal Corporation -2411500 is getting popular and so far 90 complaints have been recieved which include water,sewer related problems in various wards,water logging,sanitation problem and few other problems,Most of the complaints have been marked to the respective officers and the commissioner himself is checking the compliance. So far,only 2-3 suggestions have come which include starting boating again in Rose Garden and a train service in Rakh Bagh,which have been stopped long time back.

Collage-making contest held
Students of BCM School,Dugri,celebrated the global warming awareness day by participating in collage-making competition. They made collages to highlight the seriousness of environmental issues like global warming,ozone depletion and melting of glaciers. The students made collage by pasting many images such as earth as melting ice-cream cone,snow globe full of water,adorable polar bear pictures that signify the innocence of the animals in arctic environment. In this way,the students gave the message of saving our environment and to be eco-friendly.

Magic show held
A magic show was organised at Ram Lal Bhasin Public School on Friday. The students took interest in certain magic tricks and were curious to know about them. Milk sucking from thumb and layers of colourful ribbons from container left the audience spell bound. In the end,the magician made garland of flowers through his magic for Trannum Fatima,the school head-mistress.

Halloween Day celebrated
Teachers of GD Goenka Public School celebrated Halloween Day here on Friday. Halloween day is celebrated a day before All Saints Day on the 31October all over the world. It’s the auspicious day for the witches and the ghosts. The teachers celebrated the Halloween Day by enacting as witches and ghosts. The little Goenkans danced to the Halloween tunes. Halloween game “Trick or Treat” was played on the occasion.

BCM school declared most techno-savvy
A computer-based event “Technorati” was held at Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School here on Friday in which the leading schools of the city participated. The event comprised of four main competitions: Pixel Palette (using Paint),Ad Mad World (Poster making in MS-Word),Cyber Smart (Website Designing with HTML and DHTML) and Cyber Fiesta (a Multimedia Show). The latter two were contested by teams of two members each while the former two were individual contests. Each contest aimed at providing a platform to students to allow them to use their finely honed skills to their best. In this,BCM Senior Secondary School,Chandigarh Road,was declared the most techno-savvy school of the year. Monica Joshi,head of Department of Computer Department,and Sister Sobe,the school principal were also present there. Father John,Director of the school presided over the function.
