On a Safe Track

Don’t be surprised if you walk into a bar next time and the peppy track bursting from the speakers carries a message — Don’t drink and drive. Fans would recognise the voice of singer Shibani Kashyap as she croons,Stay Alive,Don’t Drink and Drive,as part of a public service message. The song is the latest campaign by Community Against Drunken Driving (CADD),a non-profit body working against drunken driving. Kashyap, who has also composed the number, has given it a jazz feel and woven in acoustic guitar works.

Prince Singhal, the founder of CADD,believes that songs are the most effective way to reach a message to the youth. He has tied up with 500 bars in Delhi,Mumbai,Bangalore,Hyderabad,Chennai,Pune,Jaipur and Chandigarh to play the track. In Delhi,Cafe Morrison,Smoke House Grill,OZ,Liquid Kitchen and Moets are among the watering holes that will play the song. “Young people will easily connect to a message wrapped in songs and lyrics,” he says.
