Kalyan,BSP scoff at Uma

Former UP chief minister Kalyan Singh on Tuesday said the return of Uma Bharti into the BJP would make no impact on the health of the saffron party in the state

Former UP chief minister Kalyan Singh on Tuesday said the return of Uma Bharti into the BJP would make no impact on the health of the saffron party in the state. He said the former MP CM would not be able to make any dent into the Lodha vote bank in UP.

“The BJP in UP is in the intensive care unit and is surviving on ventilator. Nothing can revive the party in the state,be it Uma Bharti or any other leader,” said Kalyan Singh, who heads Jankranti Party.

He said the BJP assigning a special role to Uma Bharti would not impact his party. “The BJP has lost the trust of not only Lodhas, but of all other sections of society,” Singh said, adding the state BJP leaders would marginalise Uma Bharti.

Kalyan Singh was expelled from the BJP in 1998. He rejoined the party ahead of the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, but left it again in January 2009.

Meanwhile, the ruling Bahujan Samaj Party also took a dig at the BJP and Uma Bharti, saying how come a leader who had failed in her home state could revive the fortunes of the party in UP. A BSP spokesman said the BJP president Nitin Gadkari seemed to believe that Uma has some magic formula to revive the dwindling electoral fortunes of his party.

“The political stature and popularity of Uma Bharti is no secret. She had lost her security deposit in Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections in 2008 from Tikamgarh seat,” said the spokesman.
