The BSP Sunday hit out at the Samajwadi Party government over the arrest of BSP MLA Noor Saleem Rana for allegedly inciting people ar a gathering days before the communal riots in Muzaffarnagar. It said the BSP MLA was arrested to settle political scores even as leaders from the SP and the Congress,who were also part of the same gathering,have remained untouched.
Talking to reporters at the BSP state headquarters,Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Swami Prasad Maurya said as many as 10 Muslim leaders of the SP and 12 Muslim leaders of the Congress,along with the BSP leaders,met the district magistrate and SSP on August 30 to submit a memorandum demanding a ban on the proposed mahapanchayat.
Police have arrested Noor Saleem who did not speak a word in the gathering while sparing those from Congress and SP. The government is doing this with political vengeance, Maurya alleged. Rana was arrested Saturday.
Maurya said Muslim leaders who the DM and SSP included SPs state secretary Rashid Siddiqui,its city president Ansar Arhati,its district minority cell president Sajid Hasan and other local SP leaders besides Congresss former minister Saeeduzzaman,its city president Mahfooz Rana and other local leaders. He said BSP MP Kadir Rana and BSP MLAs Noor Saleem Rana and Jameel Ahmed were also part of the same group.

A case was registered in Muzaffarnagar against 85 persons,including a Khap council head,for their alleged involvement in the violence.
