Women protest reaches Mamata’s office doorstep

The protest over the gangrape-murder of a college girl in Kamduni on Tuesday reached Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s office at the Writers’ Buildings with the police being called in to quell the agitation.

In a first for the Trinamool Congress government,the protest over the gangrape-murder of a college girl in Kamduni on Tuesday reached Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s office at the Writers’ Buildings with the police being called in to quell the agitation.

Around 50 women employees demonstrated in the backyard of the CMO for over three hours,demanding punishment for those perpetrating crimes against w omen.

Most of the protesters were members of West Bengal Government Employees’ Union (Naba Parjay). After being denied permission to submit a memorandum to the CM,the protesters vowed to come again on Wednesday. “We are worried about the growing incidents of rape and murder in the state. Unfortunately,our CM is not doing enough,” said Rupashree Sarkar,one of the protesters.

In the Left rule,protests were held inside the Writers’ in the wake of Singur and Nandigram incidents.
