While there are some several decades between Judy Garland and Julia Roberts’ screen lives,it’s true that screen icons like them have embodied one word in a film lover’s dictionary— talent, that is. So,when an evening is dedicated to indulging into their histrionics,it is welcomed by all alike. Such was the case with Hollywood Maidens, organised by the American Center.

The evening saw the likes of Beth A Payne,US Consul General in Kolkata and Deborah Miller, section chief at the US consulate, revel in the charm of the American screen goddesses. While humorous, sombre,or evocative scenes from several landmark films were screened,Payne,Miller and media personality Sujoy Prosad Chatterjee discussed what these women embodied. Gopa Ghosh and Carlton Pereira belted out popular chartbusters from the same films. From Marilyn Monroe and Sophia Loren to Liz Taylor and Audrey Hepburn, the evening belonged to the stars. However, quite interestingly the organizers didn’t just wind up the evening after discussing the popular screen goddesses, they also touched upon quirky actors like Julie Andrews,Mitzi Gaynor,Liza May Minnelli and Barbara Streisand.
