Despite the Calcutta Instiutute of Pharmaceutical Technology and Allied Health Sciences’ claim that the incident of a student,Nayan Adak, consuming pesticides after being allegedly harassed by seniors does not amount to ragging, police are insisting that the incident is clearly a case of ragging.

The authorities of the private pharmacy college said since the incident did not happen on the campus,it should not be termed as ragging.Last week, the first-year student was allegedly taken to an undisclosed location by four of his seniors and was ragged. After returning to his village at Tamluk in East Midnapore,Nayan consumed poison on Wednesday night. A case has been registered under the IPC and Anti-Ragging laws.
