The downpour also hit the Metro services between terminal station Dumdum and Girish Park for nearly three hours today.
Around 11.45 am ,an Up-train while changing tracks developed a technical snag and forced the closure of services at Dumdum station. All the Up-trains terminated at Girish Park station and it took the authorities three hours to repair the snag and normal services resumed from 2.45pm onwards.
A total of nine Up-trains and five Down-trains were cancelled today due to the circumstances. But the Metro Railway would like to assure the citizens that tomorrow there will be 12 trains in addition to the normal schedule of 193 trains. Henceforth every Saturday,this will continue on a trial basis to assist the commuters in the city, said Pratyush Ghosh,Senior PRO,Metro Railways.
Meanwhile,train services were disrupted in the Howrah and Sealdah-Hasnabad sections of Eastern Railway. Several locals had to cancel their journey before Howrah station due to water-logging in some of the tracks. EMU locals were stranded in the Sealdah section due to overhead power failure. The circular railway services were also halted between BBD Bagh and Princep Ghat stations due to submerged tracks.
The Dumdum Airport functioned as per schedule but many passengers complained there were no taxi or other transport services from the airport to the city. ENS
