The State Election Commission on Thursday sought a report from the District Magistrate of North 24-Parganas about the alleged violation of the model code of conduct by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee

The State Election Commission on Thursday sought a report from the District Magistrate of North 24-Parganas about the alleged violation of the model code of conduct by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. “The CPM had filed a complaint that the Chief Minister had announced new projects during an election campaign at Chandpara in North 24-Parganas on Wednesday. We have written to the DM and asked for a report,” said secretary of the commission Tapas Ray.

Union Home ministry official meets Governor

With the fate of panchayat polls in West Bengal hanging in the balance,the OSD to Union Home Ministry,Anil Goswami,on Thursday met Governor M K Narayanan. Neither Goswami nor Narayanan were unavailable for comment. However,according to sources,during their 40-minute interaction,the two discussed the demand of central forces for the polls by the State Election Commission and Opposition parties.

Meera in delhi,may consult SC lawyers

State Election Commissioner Meera Pandey on Thursday left for Delhi,fuelling speculations that she will be consulting senior Supreme Court lawyers whether to move the apex court on the ongoing tussle with the state government over holding of panchayat polls. However,SEC secretary Tapas Ray said she was in Delhi for personal reasons.
