Unwilling farmers today queued up at the BDO’s office and submitted applications to get back their land. In the past three days,1,599 application forms have been submitted at the BDO office. However, the farmers’ enthusiasm was on the wane. Mahadeb Das,an unwilling farmer and supporter of the Singur movement, said,“Singur has gone back to the darkness. This one month is very crucial for us as it will decide whether Singur will survive or not. We know that Didi is with us,but we have almost lost faith in the system.”

The district administration has separated the land deeds with disputes from the land deeds without disputes. A senior district official said,“Major parts of the land of the unwilling farmers are disputed and critically litigated. After the survey,we have got around 87 acres in the A category. The rest of the land is disputed.” Sources said that Commerce and Industry Minister Partha Chatterjee is scheduled to visit Singur tomorrow. Chatterjee has been instructed by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee to meet the unwilling farmers and supervise the process of land return.
