The twain never met in the political arena.
But Trinamool leader Mamata Banerjee and Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty,a known supporter of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee,did meet today.
The occasion was a literary award ceremony,in which Mamata received the award for the best cover design for the Durga Puja number of her party organ Jago Bangla.
She was also the chief guest. Ironically,it was Chakrobarty,who was called on stage to present the award to Banerjee.
At first Banerjee,who apparently had no inkling that she would be presented an award refused to come onstage. But as Chakrobarty said he would escort her to the stage,she got a move on,marching onto the stage from the other side.
To the daredevil leader of the one man army, Chakrobarty said while presenting the award. Banerjee was quick to retaliate: Not one man,we have a whole lot of people in the party.
After her acceptance speech,Mithun asked: When did you start painting?
The lady,who had several exhibitions to her credit,was visibly peeved. There is no beginning or end of painting. I do it often, was her stiff reply.
