The deadline to register Waqf properties on a portal launched by the Centre ends today. After resisting implementing the Waqf (Amendment) Act for months, the TMC government last week issued directions to upload information regarding Waqf properties on the UMEED portal. The Indian Express on Thursday reported that till Monday night, approximately 10,000 of the total 80,480 Waqf properties in the state were registered successfully on the Centre’s portal.

Will Humayun Kabir resign today

Suspended by TMC, MLA Humayun Kabir has announced that he will resign on Friday, and is likely to announce a new party on December 22. Alleging that he is being targeted and insulted, Kabir said, “We will contest 135 seats in the next Assembly elections, fighting both the BJP and the TMC. If TMC has the guts, let them face me.” All eyes will be on what he will do next.

Book fair in Raiganj

The three-day-long North Bengal Literary Festival and Little Magazine Mela (fair) commences in Raiganj from today. The programme has been jointly organised by Paschim Banga Bangla Academy and the District Information & Cultural Office.
