There has been intense speculation about the exact purpose of Mamata Banerjee’s visit to New Delhi last week. In her four-day visit, she visited the Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Syed Bukhari on his son’s wedding and then visited the President Pranab Mukherjee on his birthday at the Rashtrapati Bhawan. However, well placed sources said the real purpose of Mamata’s Delhi visit was to garner support to form her own Federal Front for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in 2014. However, she got lukewarm response from leaders such as Mulayam Singh Yadav and Sharad Yadav. Sources said she also wanted to meet AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal. Even here she met with little success. A dejected Mamata had no other option but to return to Kolkata.
