Youth Power,an Amity initiative organised by The Global Times,a youth newspaper of the Amity Group to sensitise the youth and nurture ethical leaders of tomorrow,held its grand finale at Amity University,Noida,on April 23,2013.The year-long programme,a brainchild of Chairperson Amity Group of Schools Dr Amita Chauhan,witnessed the finalists of eight Amity International School branches share their work for a chosen social cause. Amity International School,Noida,clinched this year’s trophy. The winning team comprising team leader Sana Sawhney along with Ananya Rajput,Ayushi Gupta and Ayan Pandey,worked round the year to promote their cause ‘Say no to plastics’. The first runner up trophy was bagged by AIS,Gurgaon,43 for ‘Sanitation and Hygiene’ while the second runner up position went to AIS,Saket,for ‘Respect Heritage’.The competition was graced by chief guest Richa Anirudh,Anchor Zindagi Live,IBN 7 and eminent jury members Senior Producer and Anchor CNN IBN Megha Mamgain,Founder Azad Foundation & Sakha Consulting Wings Pvt Ltd Meenu Vadera and Manager,Resource Mobilisation for the NGO Breakthrough Rajshri Sen.

Students of St Mark’s School go to Singapore

A four member student delegation comprising Head Girl Christina Sharon,School Captain (boys) Karan Dua,School Captain (girls) Roshni Khatri and Editor of school newsletter Ria Nagpal along with Global Coordinator Geeta Rajan participated in the MI World Conference 2013 at Singapore.

The Conference,from May 1 to May 11,was organised by Millennia Institute,Singapore.The students of St. Mark’s School interacted and worked with students from several other countries — Sweden,Germany,South Korea,Brunei,to name a few. Among other activities that the students participated in,the Millennia Institute Mart was very special as students not only exhibited Indian goods like sarees,spices,pickles,but they also learnt the art of trade.

Red Roses School honours budding artistes

Red Roses Public School,Saket,organised the 10th Inter School Art Competition that saw more than 100 students 13 schools participate. St George School got first position by bagging four trophies,followed by Gyan Bharti bagging three trophies and the host school two trophies. One trophy each was bagged by Delhi Police Public School ,St Paul’s School and Birla Vidya Niketan. The themes for the categories of Poster Making,Painting,Drawing and Colouring respectively were ‘Save Sparrow’,‘Smoking is injurious to health’,‘Women in gossip’,‘Pollution’,‘Scene from my favourite story’ and ‘Cartoon’ and My favourite toy’. Ravi and Meenakshi Jaiswal,both MFA (BHU) and Director Vision 21st Century Ad Agency,judged the entries.

Amity International School celebrates excellence

Amity International School,Sector 46,Gurgaon,began the new session with an awards ceremony and orientation programmes for students from Class 1 to Class X. The orientation programmes were organised to keep the parents in loop regarding the activities of the school and also being transparent about rules and regulations and CBSE’s policies and endeavours. The orientation programme was followed by a speech on good parenting given by Principal Arti Chopra. The prize distribution ceremony was the highlight of the every programme. Children excelling in the specific subjects and fields were awarded trophies and badges for their performance during the previous session.

Inter-school event hosted by Bal Bharati Public School

The annual inter-school competition Pulse 2013 was hosted by Bal Bharati Public School,GRH Marg,from May 6 to May 8. Twenty-two schools across Delhi participated with great zeal and enthusiasm. The inaugural ceremony was held in the school auditorium on May 6. After the ceremonial lamp-lighting ritual,the Principal L V Sehgal welcomed the gathering. After a grand welcome,the various competitions began. All the events were adjudged by various dignitaries and experts of the field. The participants put their best foot forward and competed with each other with great spirit and fervour. The judges had a tough time selecting the winners. The different venues were filled with excitement as results were announced and trophies were awarded. The prize for the best school went to Bal Bharati Public School,Noida. The winning teams were deeply elated as they received the prize.

Investiture ceremony at Guru Tegh Bahadur Public School

The Investiture ceremony and prize distribution was held at Guru Tegh Bahadur 3rd Centenary Public School on April 30. S Davinderpal Singh,Chairman of the School,was the Chief Guest on this occasion. The Programme began with a Sufi Dance performed by students of Classes VIII,IX and X. The Director Principal,Dr Surjeet Kohli administered the oath to the newly appointed Student Council and decorated them with sashes and badges. Abhijat Bhardwaj of Class XII B was appointed the Head Boy of the school,while Pushpamrit Kaur was appointed the Head Girl. They impressed the audience with their eloquence. The meritorious students of the students school were awarded for excellence in academics by Davinderpal Singh. Saravjeet Singh from Class XII A bagged the student of the year award. The Principal gave her best wishes to the Student Council and advised them to work with honesty and a positive attitude for the welfare of the School and family. It was a memorable day for the Council Members and Prize Winners.

Amity School,Noida,marks chairperson’s birthday

The Middle Wing of the Amity International School,Noida,chose Save the Earth and Human Values as the themes for the birthday celebrations of Group Chairperson Dr Amita Chauhan,honouring her strong commitment toward sustainable development and holistic education.During the week-long celebrations starting April 20,the students of Classes VI,VII,and VIII highlighted the dangers posed by climatic changes,rising sea levels,and the thinning forest cover through posters,brochures,and other promotional literature. Greetings-cards celebrating Dr Amita Chauhan’s birthday on April 27 highlighted the need for institutions to come together to ‘Save the Earth’. Value-laden education is the cornerstone of Dr Amita Chauhan’s approach to holistic learning,and she has been awarded for her outstanding contribution to the nation in the field of Education by the Happy Woman,Happy World Foundation. To honour her commitment to the time-tested traditions defining India’s collectivistic society,the Amity Middle School also held an assembly session on April 22 to reinforce the human values.

Japan dignitaries visit Delhi Public School,RK Puram

On May 3,2013,the Delhi Public School,RK Puram,had the privilege of a visit by Her Excellency,Chikako Aso,wife of the Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister of Japan. She was accompanied by Akiko Yagi,wife of the Japanese ambassador to India; Aya Yoshida,Counsellor,Embassy Of Japan (translator); Kei Eda,First Secretary of Embassy Of Japan; Seiji Ohno,First Secretary,EOJ; Nahoko Munechika,Third Secretary,EOJ and Masahiro Suto,Attache,EOJ. The objective of the visit was to achieve a greater understanding of the Indian education system and to explore the various possibilities of collaboration between the two countries in the field of education. The guests were welcomed with the lighting of the lamp. Principal D R Saini expressed his pleasure at meeting the visitors. The Chairman of the DPS Society,Ashok Chandra,was present on the occasion and had a fruitful interaction with the guests.They were presented with the tokens of appreciation. Vanita Sehgal,Headmistress of the Middle School and coordinator of the event,played the gracious host. Also present on the occasion were Vice Principal Shobha Mehta,Headmistress Anita Singh and the Japanese teacher Surbhi Gaur.
