Man held for shooting dead teen brother

The police identified the deceased as Akshay Kashyap. His 26-year-old brother Abhishek Aman, who allegedly shot him in the head, rushed Akshay to the Safdarjung Hospital and then fled. While Akshay succumbed during treatment, Abhishek, a history-sheeter, was arrested, they said.

An 18-year-old youth was allegedly shot dead by his elder brother on Thursday at their house in Nehru Nagar, police said.

The police identified the deceased as Akshay Kashyap. His 26-year-old brother Abhishek Aman, who allegedly shot him in the head, rushed Akshay to the Safdarjung Hospital and then fled. While Akshay succumbed during treatment, Abhishek, a history-sheeter, was arrested, they said.

According to the police, they were informed about the incident by the hospital at 6.30 am.

Around 1.30 am on Thursday, Abhishek fired a bullet at Akshay during an altercation, fatally wounding him in the head, DCP (South East) Ravi Kumar said. Fragments of the bullet also grazed their mother Mohini’s forehead, though she survived with minor injuries, said police.

“During questioning, he admitted to the crime. We have recovered the weapon of offence – a pistol with live rounds and a magazine. A case of murder has been registered,” an officer said.

Abhishek has four criminal cases registered against him, the police said. They added that Akshay was a student, while his father, Arun Kumar, runs a home-cooked food tiffin service. Mohini is a homemaker.
