Junkyard Grooves Again

Chennai-based band ready with its second album.

Two years after Chennai-based band Junkyard Groove split up following its debut album,The Next Level, much has changed. The line-up today comprises Sajith Satya,Shaskank Vijay and Peter Joshua as well as one of its founder members,songwriter-vocalist-lead guitarist Ameeth Thomas. The new-look Junkyard Groove has put together its second album,Accidental Heroes — and former band members Siddharth Srinivasan and Naveen Thomas, too, have pitched in.

“We were watching the History Channel one day and laughed about this title we came across. We laughed about it so much that it stuck and we all thought it would make a great title for the album,” says Thomas.

The eight-track album, unlike the debut, features a variety of styles across different genres. Each song has a distinct flavour ranging from country to club music. While Speed of love is a happy number that one can sing along to on a bright morning,Beautiful Crime is a headbangers’ delight. “The songs in the first album followed a pattern. I wanted to break the monotony and include a variety of songs of different moods and styles,” says Thomas.

Five songs have been recorded. Thomas, known for his eccentric sense in music, picked up all the studio equipment and got the band to record the songs at his studio at home in one month. “We have played the songs at gigs and our audience loved them, but I am excited about how they will react to the album,” he says.
