OF course we expected Tiestos performance,in Delhi on Sunday night,to be a memorable one, like most EDM concerts are. We were also prepared to fight our way to the front as a few thousand would dance to the tunes of one of the worlds most well-known DJs at the Sunburn Arena,Unitech Golf and Country Club Noida. However,we had clearly underestimated Tiestos popularity as more than 30,000 music revellers danced, jumped and partied away till 10 pm.
This was obviously not the first time an EDM star was performing in the city, but not even the likes of David Guetta,Fat Boy Slim or Swedish House Mafia managed to pull such a big crowd to their concerts in Delhi-NCR. When the Dutch DJ came on stage at 8 pm and mixed the first track, there was a frenzy,as inebriated fan boys and girls chanted his name . Though the first 45-minutes were a tad boring,Tiesto set the pace for an epic night. Once he began playing his most famous tracks such as Cmon,Love comes again and 076,the energy changed. People sang along, breaking into euphoric dances, and sporting over-sized glasses, glitzy headgears and trippy,neon-coloured sticks. It was the party of the year,no doubt.
The performance, however, had its share of lows too. Tiestos shift from fast, progressive house to laidback, slowed us down. Also, you would expect the world number two DJ to mix tracks and not cut them at a live concert. Alls forgiven, since the highs outnumbered our grievances. White streamers and an LED backdrop created the atmosphere. Once he played Adagio for Strings and remixes of Carried Away and Sweet Nothing, the crowd and Tiesto had reached climax point.
We left the venue with a swagger in our walk and music in our head, only to get stuck in a 90-minute traffic jam in the parking lot. Since the event was organised by rather well-known company Percept we expected better logistics in place.
