Entrepreneur Rohit Sharma,28,lives in Vasant Vihar. A weekend break at the Jaypee Vasant Continental, barely 100 metres from his home, sounds like an unusual choice for a holiday. However,Sharma, who paid Rs 16,999 for his wife and son for two nights, says it was a great break. I saved time by not travelling and I stayed in a five-star hotel which I would not have been able to afford otherwise, explains Sharma. He enjoyed an ayurvedic massage at the hotel spa, while his family hung out at the pool. A bottle of expensive champagne during brunch was thrown in by the hotel.
With the scorching summer upon us and people curtailing travel expenses,five-star hotels in the city are offering weekend packages that give you the illusion of being on holiday, with luxury at affordable prices. The Weekend Rejuvenation package at the Vasant Continental, which they started early May,is doing well. Theyve already sold 15 of these packages in three weeks for their two properties in Delhi. Since our hotel occupancy dropped 15-20 per cent from last year,we thought why not invite Delhiites to come stay at the hotel, says SM Azmat, joint president, sales and marketing,Jaypee Hotels.
Even The Claridges, which has been running at 65 per cent occupancy since April, compared with 85 per cent in the same period last year, has started what they call a Weekend Wellness package. For Rs 7,999 per night, you can stay at one of their deluxe rooms, with a 50 per cent discount on spa treatments, complimentary breakfast, use of swimming pool and fitness centre. Weve received several inquiries for these packages. We started it this year, after a drop in hotel occupancy and low revenue generation, says Harshita Singh, director of corporate communications,Claridges. The Atrium at Surajkund, their sister property,is also offering a two-night,three-day stay at the hotel for
Rs 11,999,which includes a meal at their multi-cuisine restaurant,a complimentary massage for a couple and extended happy hours at the bar. At the Hyatt Regency,a Family Vacation Package comes with a 15 per cent discount for spa treatments and dinner. There is also a 50 per cent off on a second room and four complimentary breakfasts.
Since most hotels in Delhi cater to business clientele, the InterContinental,Eros, and The Park are offering customised packages for them. In April, the InterContinental introduced a summer package for corporate clients, with free transport from the airport,a buffet breakfast at the club lounge and private check-in. The guest staying in Superior rooms pays Rs 2,000 additional to enjoy these facilities. Last year we were offering a stay at our Superior room without any these facilities. But seeing the downturn in the economy we thought of upgrading the experience of our guests at the hotel, says Pankaj Bhola, director, marketing and communications. The hotel has registered a 10 per cent drop in occupancy in April this year, compared with last year. We have sold over 200 summer packages so far, says Bhola. At The Park, the Business Package for Rs 6,000 per night gets you four hours of free broadband,a complimentary buffet breakfast and a late check out.
