The Gurgaon Municipal Corporation has collected more than Rs 261 crore in property tax in the current financial year 2025-26, said Commissioner Pradeep Dahiya after a virtual meeting Wednesday.

A civic body official told The Indian Express that the target is to reach Rs 400 crore in property tax collection this year, and that the tax branch has been issued clear instructions to ensure no laxity in recovery efforts.

After the meeting chaired by Vikas Gupta, Secretary of Haryana’s Urban Local Bodies Department, Dahiya said strict action is being taken against defaulters, with 17 properties already sealed for pending dues worth crores of rupees. The sealing campaign will be intensified further to recover taxes from all defaulters, he added.

To keep property tax records accurate and up to date, the civic body is organising special camps across areas. With support from councillors and RWA representatives, on-spot data corrections are being carried out.

Residents are being encouraged to self-certify their tax details to enhance transparency and public participation in the process, said Dahiya.

Among the property tax defaulters whose buildings were sealed on Wednesday was Vasudev Granites on Sheetla Mata Mandir Road.

The property had an outstanding tax liability of Rs 1.19 crore. Despite multiple notices, the owner failed to clear the dues, prompting the sealing, officials said. Zonal Taxation Officer Rajesh Yadav led the operation.

“We have compiled lists of defaulters across all zones and are taking firm action against properties with long-pending arrears,” said Dahiya.

The Wednesday meeting also included a review of the ongoing campaign to eliminate stray cattle.

“The district will be made stray cattle-free by December 31, with deadlines of November 30 for Farrukhnagar, Sohna, and Pataudi, and December 31 for the civic body area. Instructions were issued to prioritise clearing main roads first,” a spokesperson said.
