Cop’s son sent to prison for cheating teen with pledge

The court of Additional Sessions Judge Kamini Lau said 23-year-old Sanjay Singh of Burari began an “affair” with the girl when she was 13 and continued to exploit her emotionally and sexually for the next three years,even though he married another woman.

According to the lawsuit,Singh and three accomplices gave the girl sedative-laced biscuits and tea and took her to various places outside Delhi,where she was raped and held hostage.

The court said the girl was Sanjay’s “girlfriend” and she agreed to elope with him last year after he convinced her to do so. Singh allegedly told the girl that he was forced to marry his wife and he was going to divorce her.

The court said Singh kept the girl in Baghpat and Meerut for 10 days. He had told his wife and family that he was going to Haridwar,the court said.

The girl had tried to commit suicide during the course of trial when she came to know that Singh has no intention of divorcing his wife,the court said.

His wife has testified that Singh had lied to her and physically assaulted her. Following his arrest,she left his home.

In its judgment,the court said: “The convict betrayed the trust of one and all,be it his family or the girl. It is necessary to ensure that any person who subject young girls of vulnerable and impressionable age to any kind of exploitation is taken to task.”

Other than sending him to jail for three years,the court imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on Singh.
