DTC to court: 911 buses before CWG
The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has informed the Delhi High Court on Wednesday that 911 new low-floor buses would be put on the road before the Commonwealth Games. Appearing before the court,the Corporation said the new buses will increase the strength of its fleet to 6,500. The court then asked the government to chalk out a plan to address the transport problem in the city in view of the Games. The court was hearing the matter after taking suo motu cognizance of an accident by a Blueline bus in October 2008 which killed eight people in Badarpur.
Woman found dead,husband unconscious
A 23-year-old woman was found dead in her house in Swatantra Nagar,Narela while her husband was found unconscious on Wednesday. Manisha had strangulation marks or her neck,while husband Ajay Malik,who used to work as a security guard in a private firm till two months back,is in hospital battling for life. The police suspect Ajay killed his wife and attempted suicide by consuming poison. The couple,who married five years ago,used to have frequent altercations,the police said. They have a four-year-old boy Sujal and two-year-old daughter Tina.
Youngest to clear entrance,Sahal now joins IIT Kanpur
Kanpur: Delhi boy Sahal Kaushik,who hogged the limelight when he cracked the IIT-JEE exam at the age of 14 this year,has taken admission in an undergraduate course at the IIT institute here. Kaushik,who secured the 33rd rank at all-India level in the IIT-JEE exam this year,has opted for the five-year integrated MSc (Physics) course,said Sanjeev Kasalkar Registrar of IIT Kanpur,adding that Sahal is the youngest student to take admission in the IIT this year.
Karni Singh Stadium yet to get MCD certificate
The MCD has refused to issue completion certificate for the Commonwealth Games shooting venue due to a pending proposal for widening the road leading to it. The proposal to approve the layout plan of the Karni Singh Stadium in Tughlakabad was postponed by a meeting of the MCD Standing Committee on Wednesday after the area councillor raised objections.
